With the building still under construction, in October 1965 the first classes in IES Poeta Julián Andúgar took place. By then, and until six years later, it operated as a Delegated Section of “Instituto Floridablanca” of the city of Murcia. Along the academic year 2015/16 we celebrate the 50th anniversary of that crucial date, and for that reason a commission has been created to manage the organisation of several commemorative acts. The workgroup is formed by fifteen people, all of them current or former workers of the School, and most of them native of Santomera.
Most of the activities will start from October 2015, although the official beginning took place on June 11th.From that day a plaque decorates the façade of the building, leaving proof of the milestone. It was Manuel Campillo Laorden, one of the great promoters of the construction and opening of the Center, who uncovered the plaque. In this act, the town authorities and the current Director of the Centre, Juan Jódar Caro, accompanied him.
